Poitou-CharentesThere are 313 campsites in Poitou-Charente, this beautiful region combining forests, moors and meadows criss-crossed by pretty little rivers and green streams... For a week's camping stay in Poitou-Charente, count on average 669€, with prices increasing in high season, especially in Charente-Maritime, a vast seaside resort appreciated by summer holidaymakers.3 The marshes also shape the region, offering beautiful walks to those who appreciate the fauna and flora: the Poitou, Rochefort and Brouage marshes. To help you specify your destination and choose a campsite to pack your bags, here is a small summary of the region's must-see attractions, classified by department.
La Charente
You will find 14 campsites in Charente, at prices approaching 889€ per week. this department is above all visited for its many Gallo-Roman remains, Roman churches (the Chassenon site is one of the most supplied) and castles. Angoulême is the main city, attractive for its beautiful church, representative of its important heritage, but also for its festivals, including the famous Angoulême comic book festival. 36 km away (unfortunately, we do not have a quality campsite closer to you), you can settle down at Camping Les Gorges du Chambon 4*, a superb campsite located in Eymouthiers on a green site and, what is more, nicely maintained. The site overlooks a river, allowing all kinds of activities (fishing, swimming...) and is equipped with a beautiful swimming pool. 2nd choice, we recommend camping des Lacs 4*, in Pressignac, with a beautiful water park and giving access to a pretty lake on which you can enjoy various water activities, such as pedal boat, canoe or of course swimming. Not far from there, visit the manor house of La Rochefoucauld and the town of Cognac, and if you prefer to enjoy the pure air of nature, walks and cruises on the Charente are possible wherever you are.
La Charente-Maritime
Located on the coast, this department is the most touristic of Poitou-Charente, bringing together several key seaside resorts on the Atlantic coast (La Rochelle, Royan...), as well as the magnificent islands of Ré, off La Rochelle, Oléron and Aix. 241 campsites in Charente-Maritime, the average prices in high season being around 1483€ per week. We have booked a campsite on the Ile de Ré for you to tell us about it! 3* Le Village du Suroît campsite, perfectly located 600 m from the sea and equipped with a beautiful swimming pool and shaded pitches, also organises activities for adults during the day and in the evening, and for children through its mini club. On this paradise island, forget the beaches for a trip to the citadel of Saint-Martin de Ré, another seaside resort located 10 km from La Rochelle, Châtelaillon-Plage is home to the campsite that will make the whole family dream: the Village Corsaire des 2 Plages 4* campsite, original for its beautiful aquatic area built around the theme of privateers (pirate boat and palm trees in sight!). Entertainment and children's club are also part of it, as well as beautiful services and amenities. But the department also has a rich heritage of castles, Romanesque churches (see the beautiful basilica of Saint-Eutropes in Saintes) and various monuments spread throughout the towns and villages that make up its territory. The Zoo de la Palmyre is one of the unforgettable outings in the area, if you forget it, your children will certainly remind you of it!
Les Deux-Sèvres
There are 19 campsites in Les Deux Sèvres, including several medieval cities, including the unmissable Parthenay, castles (Château d'Oiron) and churches (see: the Romanesque churches of Melle) We recommend camping Le Bois Vert 4*, located on the banks of the Thouet, with access to the river. A swimming pool and a children's club complete the picture, reserving you a pleasant and stress-free holiday... Enjoyable by camping for its "Venice verte" which is the Poitou marsh, offering beautiful boat trips along its course, this department rhymes with calm and greenery... Bordering a green fishing pond with an ecosystem similar to that of the Poitou marsh, camping Les Chalets de la Héronnière, in Chef-Boutonne, will make you enjoy this magnificent environment, in total immersion in the heart of it. Pretty chalets are for rent, on the banks of this pond where fishing, boating and walking on the banks are so soothing... Plan to spend an average of 486€ for your holidays for a week camping in this department... Main city, Niort lets you visit the time of a walk in the heart of its ancient alleys, converging towards its impressive keep, and the charm of the pretty village of Saint-Marc-la-Lande is not forgotten.
La Vienne
We certainly do not decide by chance to spend our holidays in this department, being for the most part influenced by the presence of Poitiers in the heart of the department, a city with many assets. As for heritage, one can only marvel at its medieval centre, including the superb church of Notre-Dame-la-Grande and the fabulous Palace of the Counts of Poitou-Ducs d'Aquitaine, but the Futuroscope Park is the key element of tourism, attracting thousands of visitors each year. You will find 26 campsites in Vienne, among which we have selected the DéfiPlanet Domaine de Dienné 4* campsite, which will appeal above all to active people looking for activities, the campsite organising all kinds of sports and entertainment, but also to others, thanks to its beautiful swimming pool with jacuzzi and its wooded pitches, near Loudun, another flagship town, we offer you the Moncontour Activ Park campsite, always dedicated to sports lovers, next to a lake favourable to water sports activities and several sports grounds. Your evenings will be just as full as your days thanks to the theme evenings and concerts taking place in the campsite, so go and visit Loudun and visit its Tour Carrée and its superb Aquarium, and if you like castles, the city of Chauvigny has 3. Another popular business park in the region is the Monkey Valley Park in Romagna.
