Algarve is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Portugal, a coastal and festive region in the far south of Portugal. There are 18 campsites in the Algarve, some of which are located directly by the sea, offering the opportunity to take advantage of the "jewel" of this region with its warm and sunny climate. culture and traditions are still very present in the hinterland, which will charm the curious people who want to discover Portugal from the past. you will have to pay an average of 739€ for a week's camping in the Algarve, prices fly in high season, especially in the most popular seaside resorts.
Your campsite in the Algarve on the east coast
Your campsite in the Algarve on the coast 200 km of coast offers many possibilities for a whole day stay! Bronze, swimming and water sports are of course essential, knowing that the landscapes vary enormously from place to place along the coast, so the wild aspect of the Vicentine Coast will appeal to nature lovers (great steep slopes and a protected fauna characteristic of it), while the western part of the coast, the Barlavento region, consists of spectacular cliffs that hide caves and dream beaches. To the east, the Sotavento region offers large expanses of fine sand on the edge of a sea dotted with vast islands.
At the eastern border of the Algarve, at the gateway to the Sotavento, lies Vila Real de San Antonio, surrounded by the blue of the sea and the green of the pine forests of the adjacent natural park. Visit the parish church and the fortress before taking a stroll through the surrounding landscapes.
Let's continue our journey to the west and stop off at Tavira, another historic town and seaside resort, overlooking the castle and the bell towers of the many churches, while in Olhao, a traditional town bursting with freshness thanks to the square white houses that highlight the bright colours of the fishing boats, the Ilha de Armona campsite, located 700 m from the beach, offers various activities.
The main town of the Algarve is Faro, located in the center of the coast. The city is home to an international airport, as well as a large sandy beach on an island. The historic center of Faro is surrounded by a Roman fortified fence and the city is bordered by the nature reserve Ria Formosa, where hundreds of species of migratory birds live.
A campsite in the Algarve on the west coast
Westwards to Albufeira, we pass no less than 19 golf courses, ideal to improve your stay in the Algarve! Camping Quarteira 3* is located in this area, in Quarteira, a small fishing village and seaside resort. You will be accommodated 600 m from the beach and have access to a water park with slide and sports fields. Music evenings are regularly organised to keep you entertained.
Albufeira is one of the most popular resorts in the Algarve, with long beaches and discos as expected. However, there are several religious monuments to visit in the city (this is the case in all cities of Portugal), such as the parish church or that of San Sebastiao, the hinterland of Albufeira hides beautiful small typical villages and a charming and Mediterranean nature. Let's take the road back to Portimao, a tourist resort par excellence, but it has managed to preserve its secular soul thanks to its old centre with its narrow streets with white houses and its monuments, including the parish church Nossa Senhora da Conceiçao, and other buildings.
Lagos, always located by the sea, has a rich historical past that can be found in the walls, the slave market, the governor's palace and the various religious buildings. The beaches of Lagos are appreciated for their diversity, the two best examples are the beach of Meia Prada, a vast sandy beach of 4 km long, and the beaches of Batata, Estudantes... small sand hills, nestled between beautiful cliffs in sparkling colors.... On the outskirts of Lagos, the Orbitur Valverde campsite opens its large doors for you, placing you in the heart of its vast green field with swimming pool and all the necessary facilities.
Here we are on the west side of the coast, the starting point of the surfing paradise. For them, we have found a beautiful campsite dedicated to them, with lodges, pitches, equipment rental and surf shop. This is campsite Jah Shaka Surf and Kite Lodge, by the sea, a real oaths garden! Now let's go up along the Barlavento, an area bordered on one side by the sea, on the other by the mountains. You will have to visit Aljezur, dominated by the castle that stands on top of the hill. In several museums you can find out more about the region (House-Museum of the painter José Cercas or Museum of Sacred Art). Beaches, bays and charming villages are a summary of the surroundings of this beautiful city.
And in the country?
In the country it is essential to go to Monchique, a surprising destination that surprises visitors immediately upon arrival by the emerald green environment that we thought not so close to the warm colored coast to find. In Caldas de Monchique you can recharge your batteries in the Algarve's unique spa. The small villages that define the image of the hinterland of Agarve, discover them while you enjoy this beautiful nature!
